Come and worship the Creator who alone is worthy of our praise

Here I Am to Worship

Worship Set 5 - "10,000 Reasons"

I hope everyone is having a marvelous summer!  August is here…where has the time gone?!  Last month’s worship set was a powerful one, wouldn’t you agree?  As I was prayerfully thinking through what this month’s set should be, I realized that July was a hard act to follow.  However, God really impressed upon my heart the message of His faithfulness and goodness to us.  So this month we will be focusing our praise on these wonderful reasons to rejoice and thank God for His incredible faithfulness to us.
To kick off our new worship set, Matt Redman wrote a new spin on Psalm 103 that has been a hit and favorite across the country since its release in 2011.  This is completely a God-thing as Matt shared during an interview I listened to that he didn’t want to include this little song on his album.  He didn’t feel that it was that great, so it sat on the sidelines until the very end of the project when the producer decided to add it to the record.  Now the rest is history.

“10,000 Reasons” by Matt Redman has made its way into almost every church in America.  Written from the hymn structure and inspired from the Psalms, this worship song can speak to a wide variety of believers.  This is a song of exhortation, of remembrance, and of praise.  The recurring phrase is “bless the Lord oh my soul,” and the message is to bless the Lord for all that He has done.  The number usage of 10,000 is symbolic and meant to convey a sense of innumerable and countless.

This is a simple song, yet in that simplicity it connects and resonates with everyone.  We all need to be reminded to bless the Lord through the good times and bad.  So may this be our new prayer and song for ourselves, praising the Lord for the “10,000 reasons for my heart to find.”  Here’s “10,000 Reasons” by Matt Redman.
"10,000 Reasons"
by Matt Redman

Bless the Lord oh my soul
Oh my soul
Worship His Holy name
Sing like never before
Oh my soul
I'll worship Your Holy name

The sun comes up

It's a new day dawning
It's time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass
And whatever lies before me
Let me be singing
When the evening comes

Bless the Lord oh my soul

Oh my soul
Worship His Holy name
Sing like never before
Oh my soul
I'll worship Your Holy name

You're rich in love

And You're slow to anger
Your name is great
And Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness
I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons
For my heart to find

Bless the Lord oh my soul

Oh my soul
Worship His Holy name
Sing like never before
Oh my soul
I'll worship Your Holy name
Bless You Lord

And on that day

When my strength is failing
The end draws near
And my time has come
Still my soul will
Sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years
And then forevermore
Forevermore

Bless the Lord oh my soul

Oh my soul
Worship His Holy name
Sing like never before
Oh my soul
I'll worship Your Holy name

Bless the Lord oh my soul

Oh my soul
Worship His Holy name
Sing like never before
Oh my soul
I'll worship Your Holy name
