The Title
The name So I Fix My Eyes... was born from the words of the Apostle Paul in II Corinthians 4:16-18:
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” (NIV 84)
I’ve always been encouraged and found refreshment in this passage. So when I was trying to decide on a title for the blog, this was the verse and concept that immediately came to mind. Also, many of the other Scripture passages and verses that have grown, encouraged, and exhorted me throughout my Christian walk included this theme.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”
~Hebrews 12:1-3 (NIV 84) “I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.” ~Psalm 119:15 (ESV) “Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.” ~Hebrews 3:1 (NIV 84) |
As you can see, there are several passages and verses throughout the Bible which talk about fixing our eyes upon God and the eternal. So that’s the history behind the name of this blog, and is a concept I feel is very important to the health and growth of our Christian walk. For how can we please God and make Him the center of our lives until we fix our eyes, our thoughts, and our hearts upon Him solely? And how can we navigate the difficult, hard times of life with the love and joy of the Lord unless He is all we see and all that we live for. As the timeless hymn so beautifully declares:
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face;
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace."
Look full in His wonderful face;
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace."
So as you read and follow the different sections of this blog, I pray that in the midst of whatever circumstance of trial you find yourself in, you will always be encouraged and reminded to constantly fix your eyes on the unseen and eternal.
The AuthorMy name is Kristin Tegethoff (nee Renfer) and I am a born again believer in the Risen Lord, Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As a daughter of the King of Kings, I desire to glorify Him alone through my life no matter what happens as I travel through this temporary world on the road to my eternal, heavenly home. I have a passion for God’s Word and encouraging other believers to deepen their walk with God. So as I walk the journey God has placed before me and share what He is teaching me along the way, I hope to encourage you and others in your spiritual walk with the Creator of the universe.
