Who is God?

Introduction

Today many teens and young adults struggle with issues surrounding identity such as who am I, why am I here, what am I to do with my life, where am I going, etc.  These are questions that all must face at some point in life; whether it happens during our teen years or in our forties as a mid-life crisis, we all possess a need to find answers for these fundamental questions.  However, on our quest for personal identity we need be careful to look to the correct sources for our answers.

We must not look at the ones the world has to offer because they are often false.  The most reliable source is God and His WORD.  So over the next few months, we’re going to do a Bible study on the attributes of God by asking ourselves this question:
Picture
By honestly answering this question and digging deeply into the Word, we shall find our true identity.

So let’s get started!  Grab a pen and a pad of paper, and ask yourself the first part of this series’ question:  Who is God?   Write down everything you can think of on your pad of paper.  You’ll probably come up with a list that looks something like this:
  • Holy
  • Righteous
  • Good
  • Just
  • Faithful
  • Forgiving
  • Loving
  • Creator of all
  • Sovereign
  • Perfect
  • Omnipotent
  • Omniscient
  • Omnipresent
  • Etc.
As you think of more things, keep adding them to your list because I doubt you’ll run out of definitions of God!  Twice a month we’ll take a look at the second half of our series’ question by doing a word study on one of the attributes on our list until we cover the ones most important and relevant to our topic.  So in the meantime, start thinking about the different ways you can describe God with either a single word or short phrase.
