Come and worship the Creator who alone is worthy of our praise

Here I Am to Worship

Worship Set 11 - "God So Loved"

2/5/2020

Another month…how time marches on!  February is the month of love, month of hearts, and month of romance.  Valentine’s Day is around the corner.  Our hearts yearn for complete, unconditional love.  We have been hardwired to desire God’s love.  The problem is that we look for it in flawed human beings.  So while the world celebrates human love and the temporariness of that fickle emotion, let’s spend this month worshipping God for His unfathomable, unconditional, boundless love toward us.
Our first song for this set that centers around God’s love for us is by Hillsong Worship called “God So Loved.”  It is a remix on an old hymn which pulls the lyrics for the chorus from John 3:16.  I also love it when songs use Scripture for the lyrics.  It gives it extra power and is a great way to memorize God’s Word.

This song has a bit of call and response.  It starts out by stating what God has done for us and then leads us into what our response ought to be.  My favorite part is the declaration in the bridge:
“By His precious blood I have been set free
For the glory of Jesus’ name
I surrender all now to Christ the Lord
In Jesus I am saved”
We have been redeemed by love at the price of innocent, perfect blood.  Therefore, our response ought to be complete surrender and full devotion to the One who saved and rescued us!  God so loved the world that He gave His only Son.  What will our response be to such a gift?  Will we return that kind of love with half-hearted devotion and half-hearted love?  Or will we be floored and humbled by the overwhelming depth of God’s love for us and respond with complete devotion and surrender to the Lover of our souls?

I pray that our response to God’s love is the latter.  May we be people who are moved by God’s love and return it with sincere love and devotion back to Him.  So may your heart be touched and your soul be moved by this worship song.  And may it center your mind on the perfect example of love as we begin this month of February.  Here’s “God So Loved” by Hillsong Worship.
"God So Loved"
by Hillsong Worship

For God so loved the world

That He gave His only Son
And whosoever believes will not perish
They shall have eternal life

I shall hold to the cross
I shall hold to God alone
For His love has salvaged me
For His love has set me free

For God so loved the world
That He gave His only Son
And whosoever believes will not perish
They shall have eternal life

I shall wait upon the Lord
I shall wait upon His word
And by His grace I am released
And by His grace I am redeemed

For God so loved the world

That He gave His only Son
And whosoever believes will not perish
They shall have eternal life

By His precious blood

I have been set free
For the glory of Jesus' name

I surrender all

Now to Christ the Lord
In Jesus I am saved

By His precious blood

I have been set free
For the glory of Jesus' name

I surrender all

Now to Christ the Lord
In Jesus I am saved

For God so loved the world

That He gave His only Son
And whosoever believes will not perish
They shall have eternal life
Yes, they shall have eternal life
