Come and worship the Creator who alone is worthy of our praise

Here I Am to Worship

"Only a Holy God"

Last week I had the honor of leading our church in a worship song that called us to stop and consider how great and awesome our God is and worship Him with appropriate reverence and awe. It is so easy to lose sight of how big, majestic, and wholly other God is. While God does desire intimate relationship with us and wants us to feel comfortable approaching Him with anything and everything, we must be careful not to minimize who He is and become so familiar with Him that He becomes ordinary.
God is holy. There is no one like Him. He sits enthroned above all that He has made. Just because God has made it possible for us to enter His throne room with grace and acceptance through the blood of Christ does not bring Him down to our level or make us equals. Rather it showcases His extraordinary love for us and highlights how seriously He takes sin.

This is why I love the song we sang last Sunday called “Only a Holy God” by CityAlight and want to share it with you. It was filled with rhetorical questions and then a powerful chorus of worship and adoration. The questions were reminiscent of the book of Job when God answers Job with a host of questions that reveal just how powerful and great He is. Reflecting on and singing these questions helps us realign our perspective and remember that God is above us. He is holy, powerful, and glorious. Yet He was willing to send His only Son so that we could be reconciled to Him and call Him Father. What mercy! What grace! What love!

So let us break out in jubilant worship with humble, grateful hearts and adore the holy God who commands the hosts of heaven while also gently inviting us into His family. Here’s “Only a Holy God” by CityAlight. I pray that you are encouraged and richly blessed as you worship God and give Him the honor, glory, and adoration He deserves!
“Only a Holy God”
By CityAlight

Who else commands all the hosts of heaven?
Who else could make every king bow down?
Who else can whisper and darkness trembles?
Only a Holy God

What other beauty demands such praises?
What other splendour outshines the sun?
What other majesty rules with justice?
Only a Holy God

Come and behold Him
The One and the Only
Cry out, sing holy
Forever a Holy God
Come and worship the Holy God

What other glory consumes like fire?
What other power can raise the dead?
What other name remains undefeated?
Only a Holy God

Come and behold Him
The One and the Only
Cry out, sing holy
Forever a Holy God
Come and worship the Holy God

Who else could rescue me from my failing?
Who else would offer His only Son?
Who else invites me to call Him Father?
Only a Holy God
Only my Holy God

Come and behold Him
The One and the Only
Cry out, sing holy
Forever a Holy God
Come and worship the Holy God

I've been listening to City Alight a lot recently. Their songs are so good, easy to follow, and doctrinally solid. I can't pick a favorite, though!!
