To Everything There is a Season1/22/2016 We’ve come to the beginning of yet another new year. Yes, I know that this post is late and that the first month of the year is already almost over; however, I’m still trying to get my head around 2016! Life is a journey and sometimes we experience bumps on the road; bumps that leave us airborne for a period of time. I recently experienced such a road bump, and had my life jolted and thrown into disarray. (Hence the reason for the lack of blog posts.) But it is during these airborne moments that we are carried on our Savior’s eagle’s wings and our spiritual vitality is renewed. For it is so easy to get caught up in the affairs of life and all the good things that God has put before us and forget to constantly strive to know our Maker better and listen to His still, small voice. Sometimes we need those speed bumps to wake us up from mediocrity and complacency! So as you start to make plans and “new year resolutions”, remember to give God room to work and don’t be afraid of the unexpected bumps along life's journey. I like how an assistant of Janet Erskine Stuart said of this respected, early 20th century Catholic teacher: “She delighted in seeing her plan upset by unexpected events, saying that it gave her great comfort, and that she looked on such things as an assurance that God was watching over her stewardship, was securing the accomplishment of His will, and working out His own designs…she was joyfully and graciously ready to recognize the indication of God’s ruling hand, and to allow herself to be guided by it.” Oh to be like this gracious and flexible woman!
In closing, as you continue to plan for the year of our Lord 2016, remember the lessons learned from this past year, press on towards the future, and live life fully in the present. For “yesterday was history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift and that’s why we call it the present.” May we become believers equipped with visions for the future while still living each day wholly to the glory of God!
