Mothers: The Givers of Life5/14/2017 They live quiet, selfless lives. They’re always on call and never have time off. They don’t work for money nor do they expect praise or applause for their daily, moment-by-moment efforts. Their greatest delight and joy is to see their young protégées walking with the Lord, happy, healthy both in body and mind, and noteworthy citizens of society. From the sleepless nights of the infant stage through the rocky ride of the teen years, they work tirelessly to see that goal come to fruition. Who are these amazing people? They are Christian mothers.* Ranging in ages, experiences, personal philosophies, and parenting methods, they all have one thing in common. Their one goal is to seek the success and betterment of their children. Therefore, they give of themselves without much thought for their own personal well-being and strive to raise and train rebellious toddlers into young men and women capable of changing the world. Not only do these wonder women carry the physical life of their child inside them for nine months, but also for the next 18+ years they hold between their hands the spiritual, mental, and emotional life of that child. Under their care and guidance grows the interests, passions, beliefs, assumptions, worldviews, and everything else that makes a person who they are. Mothers truly are the givers and nurturers of life—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. This is a heavy responsibility and a high calling. While changing dirty diapers and cleaning spilt juice off the floor for the hundredth time might not seem like a glamorous job, mothers wield the most power to influence and shape the future of the world. As William Ross Wallace intuitively observed in his poem by the same name, “The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world.” Therefore, today on Mother’s Day 2017, as grateful sons and daughters, let us rise up and bless our mothers. Let us shower praise, recognition, and honor upon them. For while they hold the greatest position a woman could have, they also receive the least amount of acknowledgment. And let us remember the weighty idiom, “Behind every great man is a great woman.” So go honor the great woman who has tirelessly worked in your life to help make you the person you are today. And thank her for giving you life in so many ways. To all moms: Happy Mother’s Day! “A mother is a gift from God that’s blessed in every part… born through love and loyalty…conceived within the heart.” ~Anonymous *For those who have been raised in broken and/or non-Christian homes and don’t have a mother like this, look for older Christian women who would fill this void for you. Ask God for a Christian mother figure who will nurture and encourage you. And see if God won’t send you a Titus 2 woman!
