Have you ever wondered what makes a good Christian leader? Or how God shapes and makes those men and women useful servants for His kingdom? I know I have. Now that I’m serving in ministry and feel called to leadership in worship and discipleship, I have often pondered and contemplated how God chooses and prepares His servants. Throughout Biblical and Church history there have been many amazing and mighty men and women of God. A short list would include giants like Moses, David, Joseph, Mary, Paul, James, Peter, Billy Graham, John Wesley, and Hudson Taylor just to name a few. But what set these people apart? Why did God choose them? And how did they grow into their roles of leadership? What journey did God take them on to shape and mold them into the leaders of His choosing? As God calls me further into ministry and sharing His light and love with others, I want to be faithful and follow in the footsteps of our great cloud of witnesses. So I’m going to embark on a study through God’s Word to find the answer to these questions. As I pondered who the greatest leader has been in biblical history (aside from Jesus), the answer God brought to mind was Moses.
Deliverer of Israel and writer of the Ten Commandments along with the first five books of the Bible, Moses was used mightily by God. Under the direct guidance of God, he single-handedly led and governed a nation of over two million people. And for the most part, he did all this successfully and faithfully. Moses witnessed the glory of God on Mount Sinai, was used by the Almighty to perform miracles, and was entrusted with the building of God’s tabernacle. Other than Jesus Christ, I don’t think there has been another leader like Moses. So the next Bible study I’m going to embark on will be through the book of Exodus. There are so many wonders in Exodus—for example, the ten plagues of Egypt, a complete Bible study in and of itself. However, in this study I will be focusing on the life of Moses—how God grew him, used him, and how Moses responded. I want to dive deeply and see what Moses’ strengths and weaknesses were and how God shaped him into the leader he became. So if you’re interested, join me in this new adventure through God’s Word. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us!
