Give Thanks

“Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth!
Serve the LORD with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
Know that the LORD, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
For the LORD is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.”
~Psalm 100

Happy Thanksgiving!
When we think of this day, we often picture Pilgrims and Indians dressed in their respective garb enjoying hunting and gaming together.  However, today is a day of reflection and remembrance of all the wonderful things God has done in our lives.  The Bible commands us to give thanks ALWAYS, but on this particular day, Thanksgiving Day, we should express even more thankfulness to the One who has given us so much.

The first Thanksgiving was celebrated by the Pilgrims who chose to give thanks to God despite the fact that over half their number had died just months before.  Likewise, we also must give God thanks right where we are, no matter what has happened or what trials we are facing.  God asks us to be grateful for what we have, and we have so much.  We can all rejoice in the fact that Jesus came to save and redeem us.  Everyone has this hope that cannot be taken away from us and reason to rejoice, from the persecuted Christians in Iraq who have nothing, to the privileged believers in America.

So this Thanksgiving, as you surround yourself with family, friends, and great food, remember to give thanks to the One who has blessed you with eternal life in His name, and from whose hand flow all good things!
