So far in this series, we have seen that God is perfect and that He creates all things with purpose and for a reason. He has personally formed us and predestined the number of days we shall live and where and when we will live them. Nothing God does is by accident nor is it a mistake. Now we’re going to take a look at another key attribute of God that is foundational as we analyze who God is and apply it to our lives.
Have you ever said something and then had to go back and correct it because what you said was inaccurate? Or has anyone ever told you they would do something, but then changed their mind last minute? Annoying isn’t it?! Human nature is fickle and easily changeable. Why? Because it operates on selfish emotion and perception. Think about it. A lot of the decisions you make are probably based on how you feel at the moment or how you perceive it will benefit you. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not judging you. We all do this, including me, because we all have a corrupt human nature. But as Christians who have been born again, we are to put to death this sinful nature and follow Christ’s example. However, we will and do fail, slipping back into the harmful dictations of our corrupt nature, and because of this, we tend to make decisions on a whim and then change our minds just as easily. Or maybe we’ll tell someone something that’s not necessarily true to make them feel better and/or raise their opinion of us. Sound familiar? While you may not do it yourself (or at least realize you do), I’m sure someone has done it to you. And since this is what you experience and know with people here on earth, you may be inclined to project this attribute on God. But don’t! Just because man is fickle, selfish, and sinful doesn’t mean that God is also! God is completely trustworthy. For
“God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind.” ~Numbers 23:19a
This is crucial to comprehend! Because as we look at God’s attributes and promises, you must understand and know in your heart that they are true. For instance, when God says that you are fearfully and wonderfully fashioned after His own likeness, He means it! Or when He tells you that you are beautiful in His eyes, He is not trying to make you feel better but is speaking absolute truth! And when God promises He will never leave you nor forsake you, He will not change His mind! Everything God says is true, everything He promises He will fulfill, and He does not have regret.
“And also the Glory of Israel will not lie or have regret, for he is not a man, that he should have regret.”
~I Samuel 15:29
“For I the LORD do not change…”
~Malachi 3:6a
“God, who never lies…[and] with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”
~Titus 1:2, James 1:17b
~I Samuel 15:29
“For I the LORD do not change…”
~Malachi 3:6a
“God, who never lies…[and] with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”
~Titus 1:2, James 1:17b
Therefore, let us trust this trustworthy God who has created all that we see and has formed us in our mother’s womb, carefully planning when and where He would place us in HIStory. And let us take refuge in Him and hold fast to His promises because He, the LORD God Almighty, cannot lie!
“So that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.”
