A Blinded World3/5/2018 Author's Note: Sorry this post is late! The weekend turned out to be a bit crazy and I lost track of which day it was. So here's a little something for your Monday. May God bless you through it! Have you ever wondered why the world is still so dark? Despite how advanced humanity may seem or how highly civilized everyday life has become there is still a level of savageness and depravity within our culture. We see it revealed in the daily headlines, and the tragic tale of yet another massacre and act of terror. Why? This is the question so many are asking as they try to figure out the cause behind mankind’s biggest morality issues. Philosophers theorize, physiologists observe, and psychiatrists speculate, but they can’t seem to come up with an answer. Why? Because the answer is not physical, mental, or emotional. The answer is spiritual. We know why the world continues in disgusting depravity—because on a spiritual level the world is still blind. Its cruel master has blinded minds so that people cannot see the truth or right from wrong. As Paul shares in II Corinthians 4:3-4: “And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” The simple truth of the matter is that Satan has blinded the world so that they cannot see the light of truth. Satan—the god of this world, the master under whom all who do not trust in Jesus are subject to—twists and warps the minds, perspectives, and values of all those under his authority. Though people may not realize it, the secular world is directly under the control of this conniving, vicious, and destruction-minded master—one who prowls around like a lion seeking whom he may devour (I Peter 5:8). However, we, as believers and followers of the risen Lord, are no longer under Satan’s control. Our slavery to him has been broken by the power of the cross, and his mastery over us is no longer valid since we have a new Lord and King, Jesus Christ. Our eyes and minds have been opened to the light of the gospel, and we have freedom to recognize truth. Hallelujah, praise the Lord! Therefore, as children of light, we should not be surprised or shocked by what the children of darkness do or promote. For we know that they are operating under the lordship of Satan and are blind in mind and spirit. So as we watch the world growing more and more evil and depraved around us, let us not lose heart but remember that “the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel.” Let us pray for those who still walk in darkness, that God would open their eyes so they may taste and see that the Lord is good. And finally, let us remember and heed this exhortation from Ephesians: “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time,
because the days are evil.” ~Ephesians 5:15-16
