Holy Spirit: Revealer of Mysteries5/5/2021 Before Jesus’ crucifixion and subsequent resurrection and return to heaven, He had a lengthy conversation with His disciples and promised them many things including a divine Helper Who would come after Jesus returned to heaven. This divine Helper is the Holy Spirit that would teach all things and remind them of the truths Jesus had already imparted. Throughout the New Testament, we learn more about the Holy Spirit that Jesus gave us to live and dwell within us, guiding us through life and directing us in the ways of God. Here, in 1 Corinthians, we gain more insight into the role of the Holy Spirit, its place within the Trinity, and its important place in our lives as the revealer of God’s mysteries and divine wisdom. “These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.” ~1 Corinthians 2:10-12 Everything we know about God is revealed to us through the Holy Spirit, the Helper Jesus sent. The Third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, is actively searching the depths of God’s nature, His character, and infinite being. Without the Holy Spirit, it is impossible to even begin to know and understand God. Therefore, the Holy Spirit is crucial to our spiritual growth and is a priceless gift that should be treasured. Throughout the New Testament, we are told that the Holy Spirit indwells the believer, making its home within us so that it can lead us and guide us in the way we should walk. What an incredible gift! While God has given us many gifts free of charge, without the Holy Spirit, we cannot even start to understand the incredible riches that God has blessed us with. So the Holy Spirit is actually one of the best gifts God has given since through it we gain understanding into Who God is and all that He has given us in Jesus Christ. However, do we truly understand and value the fact that the living God lives within us through the person of the Holy Spirit? Do we fully appreciate the priceless treasure we possess? Do we understand what we have access to through the Holy Spirit? It is so easy to take the Holy Spirit for granted. We cannot see it and often forget the quiet and subtle work it does in our hearts. However, as Paul makes clearly evident, we would be lost without the Holy Spirit. Therefore, let’s take some time today to thank God for the divine Helper He sent and to allow the Holy Spirit to teach and reveal to us more of Who God is. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
~John 14:26
