Living a purpose driven, joy filled, and eternally focused life as Christ’s Chosen Bride

All for Him Only

All for Him Only

Happy Valentine’s Day, ladies!  I know that for some this can be a difficult day, which is why I’ve chosen February 14th as my launch date for the sub-blog of Engaged to a Heavenly Bridegroom.  So if you’re feeling left out and unloved this Valentines, remember that the Creator and Sustainer of the universe loves you and has chosen you as His special, beautiful, and holy Bride.  What more could you ask for?
All for Him Only is the life application half of Engaged to a Heavenly Bridegroom.  Here, we’ll look at practical examples on how to live our everyday lives in light of the truth of our position as Christ’s Bride.  Ranging from topics on dating versus courtship, modesty, relationships, friendships, devotional time, prayer, and biographies of women who lived their lives centered on this concept, All for Him Only will focus on answering the questions of how we, as 21st century Christian women, can live our lives with great purpose and joy as we look forward to our Groom’s return.

The inspiration behind this blog came from a story and song I recently heard.  The story was about Jonathan Edwards—the great revivalist from the 18th century—and the following testimony he wrote about his bride-to-be:

I love how Edwards views his fiancé!  He sees in her a greater love and desire for her Heavenly Groom than for him.  Even though she was soon to be married and reach the milestone that many young women pine for, she wasn’t focused on Edwards.  In his eyes, her affections were fully centered on the One who rules the world and was coming back for her someday.  May our lives resemble that of Sarah Pierrepont!

Her example is our goal, our aim, and the purpose of this section of Engaged to a Heavenly Bridegroom.  To have the truth of our position as Christ’s Bride so permeate our being that even when/if the time comes for us to marry an earthly groom our affections will still be all for Him only.

The beautiful song that I recently heard by Sherri Youngward in reflection of Jonathan Edwards’ Apostrophe encapsulates this so well.

~ SHE LOOKS TO THE SKY LYRICS ~
by Sherri Youngward

They say she is loved by the greatest of all
Who have walked in the world
He lives far away, still she spends all her days
Content with only His words

She often walks alone, but never is she lonely
You can offer her anything
Her affections are all for Him only

She looks to the sky
As if He is coming down through the clouds up above
Though no one has seen Him you cannot deny
She is drenched with His love

She often walks alone, but never is she lonely
You can offer her anything
Her affections are all for Him only

All the day long she sings sweetly
She says He speaks to her mind
She’s only rich with affliction
Yet a bitter word you won’t find

She lives with assurance He loves her too deeply
To let such distance remain
She’s brimming with longing for Him to come calling
And sweep her away

So together, may we strive after the devotion of Sarah Pierrepont and join in declaring that our affections, lives, and dreams are All for Him Only!
