Come and worship the Creator who alone is worthy of our praise

Here I Am to Worship

Worship Set 7 - "Jesus Messiah"

Typically, songs used during communion are reflective and slow.  However, I occasionally like to use “Jesus Messiah” by Chris Tomlin which does not fit those characteristics.  While this song is not a prayer, it is a declaration that beautifully walks us through the message of communion.  Therefore, I feel that it is totally fitting for this part of the service.

The two verses of this song lead us through the message of the cross and God’s gift of love.  The second verse even states, “His body the bread, His blood the wine, broken and poured out all for love.”  However, the power in this song comes from the chorus which is a beautiful declaration of who Jesus is.  It’s one of those anthems that could bring you to tears and make you want to shout at the same time as it declares the beauty and glory of Christ and what He’s done for us.

“Jesus Messiah, Name above all names, Blessed Redeemer, Emmanuel.
The Rescue for Sinners, the Ransom from heaven, Jesus Messiah, Lord of all.”

But the song doesn’t end at the powerful chorus.  There is an equally inspiring bridge that contains our heartfelt response to such a Savior.  We could sing the greatness and glory of God until we run out of breath; however, if we do not include a personal response, it is of no use.  True worship should bring a response.  True worship should build our faith and unite our hearts more closely with God’s.

Therefore, if we sing the names of Jesus but forget our response, we’ve missed the message.  So let’s not forget to sing the bridge and mean it from our hearts.

“All our hope is in You.  All our hope is in You.
All the glory to You, God, the Light of the world.”

“Jesus Messiah” has all the elements of a great worship song:  powerful verses, moving chorus, and a heartfelt response.  And it is a great one to sing and reflect on as you take the Lord ’s Supper and remember Him—our Savior and King.  May you be newly inspired and blessed by this great worship song.  Here’s “Jesus Messiah” by Chris Tomlin.

"Jesus Messiah"
by Chris Tomlin

He became sin, who knew no sin

That we might become His righteousness
He humbled himself and carried the cross
Love so amazing, love so amazing

Jesus Messiah, name above all names

Blessed redeemer, Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners, the ransom from Heaven
Jesus Messiah, Lord of all

His body the bread, his blood the wine

Broken and poured out all for love
The whole earth trembled, and the veil was torn
Love so amazing, love so amazing, yeah

Jesus Messiah, name above all names

Blessed redeemer, Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners, the ransom from Heaven
Jesus Messiah, Lord of all

All our hope is in You, all our hope is in You

All the glory to You, God, the light of the world

Jesus Messiah, name above all names

Blessed redeemer, Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners, the ransom from Heaven
Jesus Messiah, Lord of all
Jesus Messiah, Lord of all

You're the Lord of all

The Lord of all
