Come and worship the Creator who alone is worthy of our praise

Here I Am to Worship

Worship Set 5 - "It is Well with My Soul"

Another classic hymn, the story behind “It is Well with My Soul” is one of triumph through tragedy.  It is the testimony of one man’s unwavering faith in God despite the loss of almost everything.  It is a reminder for us that no matter the hard we have to navigate, God is faithful and worthy of our praise.
For those who don’t know the story behind “It is Well with My Soul”, here’s a brief version.  Horatio Spafford’s wife and three daughters were traveling to England on board a passenger ship, when suddenly their ship ran into rough weather and ended up sinking in the storm.  Horatio heard of the terrible news, but didn’t know what happened to his family until he received a telegram from his wife that simply read, “I alone survived.”  Imagine the heartbreak!  Imagine the pain!  To lose all three of his children in one moment.

Yet as Spafford took a different ship over to England to meet with his wife, the ship’s caption pointed out where the other boat and met is tragic end.  And there, at the place where he had lost just about everything he held dear, Horatio Spafford penned this powerful hymn.  If he could go through all of that and still say “it is well with my soul”, then we can face our trials and trust God’s goodness and faithfulness today.

This hymn was originally written in 1873, and since then has blessed many people.  I have loved this song for as long as I can remember.  However, Hillsong added a bridge to this already amazing hymn which made it more powerful.  The bridge adds and anthem to the song and a rallying point where we can not only tell ourselves that God is faithful, but we can also declare our faith to God.

So today’s worship song is the Hillsong version of “It is Well with My Soul.”  I pray that you are deeply blessed and enriched by this new bridge and are reminded of God’s faithfulness no matter what we face.  Here’s “It is Well with My Soul” by Horatio Spafford and Hillsong.
"It is Well with My Soul"
by Spafford and Hillsong

When peace like a river

Attended my way
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot
You have taught me to say
It is well
It is well with my soul

But Lord it's for Thee

For Thy coming we wait
The sky not the grave is our goal
Oh trump of the angel
Oh voice of the Lord
Blessed hope
Blessed rest of my soul

It is well with my soul

It is well
It is well with my soul

You are the Rock

On which I stand
By Your grace it is well
My hope is sure
In Christ my Savior
It is well with my soul
