Come and worship the Creator who alone is worthy of our praise

Here I Am to Worship

Worship Set #13 - "Way Maker"

4/1/2020

Picture
April 1st.  April Fool’s Day.  But today is no joke.  Today is the beginning of the month leading to Easter.  Today in the midst of the panic that has gripped our world, we’re going to forget the crazy, forget the stress, forget the unknowns, and choose to worship and remember all that this season represents for us as believers in the Risen Lord.  So take a moment to find a quiet space and reflect on all that Jesus has done for you and what your response to that gift will be.
Before COVID-19 was hitting headlines and changing the world as we know it, something else was circling the globe.  A song.  An anthem of praise to our God.  A declaration of faith.  “Way Maker” was already traveling around the world before this pandemic broke out, but since COVID-19 arrived, it’s become a core anthem for the church during this unsettling time.

Filled with declarations of truth, this song is all about telling God and ourselves, no matter the situation we find ourselves in, that He is the same.  He is the same way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness, and God who created all things.  It is also a reminder that even if we don’t immediately see what God is doing, He is still working.  He’s still redeeming, healing, shining, and making a way through the chaos.

While this song wasn’t one of my instant favorites when I first heard it, it’s growing on me.  It can be repetitive, but I think we sometimes need to repeat truths over and over to ourselves so that our stubborn hearts can receive it and believe it.  However, what’s making me excited about this worship song is what it’s doing in the church.  It’s building faith, growing trust, and empowering the Body of Christ to believe God in the midst of the darkness.  It’s becoming an anthem for the Church, uniting people from various churches and demographics to believe that God is working during these unprecedented times.  And that’s what a good worship song should do.

God is using this song to stir and awaken His Church.  So let’s join in and be a part of the moving of the Spirit.  Let’s lift our voice with the thousands of other believers around the world who have chosen to make this song the soundtrack of their lives during this season.  Let’s use the lungs and breath God has given us to declare who God is into the darkness of fear, doubt, and panic.  May we give God room to complete the work He is starting in our lives, in the church, and in the world.  Here’s “Way Maker” by Osinachi Okoro.

Way Maker has really grown on me too! It's such a powerful anthem of reminder that God can do what we can't in the midst of these uncertain times.
