"Peace Be Still"

Anxiety is a really big thing in this broken world, and this year has been riddled with this uneasy feeling.  While some people experience anxiety and stress to different degrees, from major panic attacks to a slight unsettled feeling, we’ve all had moments with lack of peace.  A lack of calm assurance and trust to step out of the boat and onto the water in the midst of the storm with our eyes fixed on Jesus.
The two different stories of Jesus’ disciples, a boat, and a storm teach us important lessons on trusting our Savior in the midst of chaos.  These are vital life lessons as we face storms of different sizes, durations, and intensity throughout life.  Therefore, I love Hope Darst’s song “Peace Be Still” because it puts to music precious nuggets from these important lessons on trust and peace.

Using beautiful imagery and based on the story of Peter walking on water, “Peace Be Still” by Hope Darst is a song that has been circulating on repeat in my mind and heart over the last month.  While I am not an overtly anxiety person and I do not struggle with extreme anxiety, I still need reminders to trust my Savior, to remember His promises and step out of my comfort zone, to recall Who’s in charge of the situation, and to simply be still.  My favorite part of the song is the chorus which is a declaration of faith and action.
“Peace be still
Say the word and I will
Set my feet upon the sea
Till I’m dancing in the deep

Peace be still
You are hear so it is well
Even when my eyes can’t see
I will trust the voice that speaks
Peace”
May we fix our eyes on Jesus, step out of the boat, and have enough faith to go dancing in the deep.  Jesus wants us to experience the freedom of His peace in the midst of storms, so let’s hold onto His promises and be still.  So whether you’re struggling with anxiety, an unsettledness in spirit, or need a faith booster, I pray that this song will encourage your week and fill you with renewed trust in the One who calls you out of the boat and out onto the waters of faith.  Here’s “Peace Be Still” by Hope Darst.
"Peace Be Still"
by Hope Darst

I don't want to be afraid

Every time I face the waves
I don't want to be afraid
I don't want to be afraid

I don't want to fear the storm

Just because I hear it roar
I don't want to fear the storm
I don't want to fear the storm

Peace be still

Say the word and I will
Set my feet upon the sea
Till I'm dancing in the deep

Peace be still

You are here so it is well
Even when my eyes can't see
I will trust the voice that speaks

I'm not gonna be afraid

'Cause these waves are only waves
I'm not gonna be afraid
I'm not gonna be afraid

I'm not gonna fear the storm

You are greater than it's roar
I'm not gonna fear the storm
I'm not gonna fear at all

Peace be still

Say the word and I will
Set my feet upon the sea
Till I'm dancing in the deep

Peace be still

You are here so it is well
Even when my eyes can't see
I will trust the voice that speaks
Peace peace over me

Let faith rise up

Oh heart believe
Let faith rise up in me

Let faith rise up

Oh heart believe
Let faith rise up in me
Let faith rise up

Peace be still
Say the word and I will
Set my feet upon the sea
Till I'm dancing in the deep

Peace be still

You are here so it is well
Even when my eyes can't see
I will trust the voice that speaks
Peace peace over me
Peace peace over me
