Worship Set 8 - "Fade Away"11/27/2019 To wrap up our month of worship focused on surrender and gratitude, I want to share with you a song that has been speaking deeply to me over the last couple of months. It’s a call to surrender, a call to make Jesus our everything and all that we’ll ever need. It’s a prayer, asking God to fill us with more of Himself and less of ourselves. It’s an anthem to declare to ourselves, reminding us of our mission and purpose. This is “Fade Away” by Passion Music.
Worship Set 8 - "I Surrender All"11/20/2019 This simple, classic hymn is one of my favorites. Penned in 1896 by the little known J.W. Van DeVenter. This Methodist lay pastor wrote many hymns, but the most well-known one by far is “I Surrender All”.
Worship Set 2 - "More Like Jesus"5/29/2019 Worship songs come in all shapes and forms. Some are long, complex and tell a story. Others declare our faith and what we believe and contain bold statements. While still others are extremely simple in lyric and music yet convey deep emotion and a heartfelt prayer. The final song I’m going to share with you this month and that will complete our Worship Set 2 falls into the last category.
Worship Set 2 - "Lead Me to the Cross"5/22/2019 Communion. Jesus instituted this tradition and a way of remembering His sacrifice the night before He was arrested, and it has been observed by the Church for the last 2,000 years. At my church we take communion the first Sunday of every week, and as the elements are passed out we sing a song. Therefore, since May has five weeks in it, I decided to share one of the songs I use for communion.
Worship Set 2 - "No Longer I"5/15/2019 Hymns are classic. They are full of deep theological truth and have stood the test of time. However, depending on what type of church you go to, hymns can sometimes feel old fashioned and not terribly relevant to the current musical style. Nevertheless, the truth they contain is still rich and deep. So I love it when song writers combine solid hymns with modern music. They give the hymns new life with a fresh bridge or chorus or even weaving them together with newer songs.
Worship Set 1 - "Unbroken Praise"4/10/2019 The next song in our Easter-focused worship set is called “Unbroken Praise” by Matt Redman. This song touched me deeply several years ago and is still a favorite worship song. I recently introduced it at my church and it has blessed several in our congregation, so I pray that it blesses you also!
"Jesus at the Center"1/22/2018 Welcome back to another post on Here I Am to Worship! Last week, we learned a lesson in surrender and how a surrendered life is the greatest offering and act of worship we can give our loving God. This week, we’re going to continue with a great follow-up worship song titled, “Jesus at the Center.”
"The Stand"1/15/2018 Last week, we reflected and looked back on God’s constancy and steadfastness in the past year and throughout our lives. We celebrated and praised God for His unending faithfulness towards us. This week we’re going to look at what an appropriate response would be to God’s great faithfulness.
