Life can change so much and so quickly! Since the last time I wrote, I’ve become a mom, and it’s been the sweetest of seasons. Our precious baby Lydia entered the world at the end of January and has been the greatest blessing. Routines and rhythms seem to be constantly shifting, but as she gets older and our schedule becomes more regular, my goal is to carve out some time each morning to get back into logging my reflections to share with you all. One of the many ways motherhood has grown my relationship with the Lord is that I’ve learned in a new way how much I must rely upon Him - and how good of a Father He is! In the wee hours of the morning, holding a newborn because that’s the only way she would sleep while waiting for dawn to break, the verse that kept coming to mind was Lamentations 3:21-24: “But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. ‘The LORD is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him.’” Before motherhood, I didn’t often pull all-nighters nor have any reason to be up multiple nights to see the dawn. But in that season of long nights, the beauty and hope of the morning was something that kept me going from 2:00-6:00 am. I would count down the hours until dawn because I knew that I'd feel much better once the sun came up. In a new and fresh way, I learned how precious the dawn of morning and the glory of a new day is - a day in which God gave new breath and renewed strength.
And God wants us to rely upon Him fully each day for every step and breath we take. I’m often guilty of feeling self-sufficient, and that I can accomplish all that’s on my plate, but over the last nine months, I’ve been reminded anew that on my own, I can do nothing. And just as God faithfully brings the sun around for a new dawn, He fills my cup with all that I need to pour it out into the various responsibilities and opportunities He has given me. So whether you’re in the midst of a seemingly endless season of night, or if you’re weary and feel overwhelmed by the daily demands of life, I hope you find encouragement and, like me, are reminded that God is good and He is faithful. He will give you exactly what you need when you rely on Him and that His mercies are truly new every morning. How great is His faithfulness!
